Thanks for your support!

Thanks to all of you who were able to attend the AIG Parent Informational Meeting held in the media center on Thursday, October 29.  There was a good parent turnout to hear about the changes and improvements that are being made to the Carteret County Schools AIG Program.

Our AIG Director, Mrs. Wanda Nelson Fowler and I explained the changes and improvements to the AIG program, our new tiered model, eligibility criteria, and the associated service options.  Mrs. Fowler also shared student achievement data that supports the direction that the AIG Program is moving in with these program changes.   As a school system we are charged with providing a learning environment for each child that allows him/her to make an appropriate amount of academic growth each year.   By changing the way we deliver services to our gifted students, we are creating a learning environment that better promotes individual student growth while keeping those students challenged and engaged.

Packets of information were also shared with parents that included each child’s individual tiering information and the tests and the associated scores used at the time of your child’s placement in the AIG program.   I am excited to be working with such a dedicated team here at BSE and I look forward to working with them as we provide the rigor and support that are brightest students need.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Welcome to the 2009-2010 School Year!

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year!  My name is Celeste Young and I am the AIG Specialist that will be serving Bogue Sound Elementary School this year.  I have been very fortunate to have worked with the students and staff  here for the past seven years.  This year I am also serving  Broad Creek Middle School and it has been exciting to see and work with the students and families of  BSE again at our sister school.

I started my teaching career as a second grade teacher at White Oak Elementary in 1996.  For the next five years, I taught first and second grades at Morehead Primary School until I became an AIG Specialist in 2002. With my experience and background in the regular classroom and gifted education, I hope to be a valuable resource to the students, staff and families of BSE. I am very excited to continue to be a member of such a great team!

I will be serving BSE each week on Mondays and Tuesdays. Even though the daily differentiation and direct instruction will come primarily from the classroom teacher, I will be collaborating and working closely weekly with each grade level, teacher, and classroom that serves our gifted students through a partnership that involves inclusion and pull-out services.  I am a resource that is available to provide information, materials, and support in any way I can.

A resource that might be of interest to parents is the NAGC link found in the blogroll on this page. This link will take you to the National Association of Gifted Children’s online access to Parenting for High Potential which is a quarterly magazine designed for parents who want to make a difference in their children’s lives, who want to develop their children’s gifts and talents, and who want to help them develop their potential to the fullest.

Open lines of communication are very important to me. Please contact me if I can help in any way. Email is probably the best method to contact me since I serve more than one school and I always have access to it. My email address is celeste.young@carteretk12.org . I look forward to a great year ahead!

Sincerely,

Celeste Young
